The Impact of Collaboration and Exhibitions on Product Design Engineering
TF Scale 2024
Twente University 2023

In product design engineering, collaboration and exhibition play an important role in professional development and project success. As technology advances and market demands become more complex, product design engineers must work continuously and collaboratively to create innovative and competitive products.

As a student of the Product Design Engineering Program, especially at BINUS ASO School of Engineering, opportunities to collaborate on projects are wide open, the latest example is a short project collaboration with Twente University, Netherlands, and Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore.

COLLABORATION allows students to share diverse ideas and perspectives. For example, the Product Design Engineering Program through the Binus University International Office (IO) facilitates students to collaborate with students from overseas universities to discuss issues related to design and sustainability. By collaboration, the students explore different approaches and solutions, driving innovation and improving design quality. Engineering design projects often require skills from multiple disciplines. Collaboration allows for continuous feedback processes. By receiving input from the other students, the students can iteratively improve and refine the product, enhancing its quality and reliability. Group projects allow for a more efficient division of tasks, as each team member can focus on their specific skills. This increases overall productivity and speeds up the product development process. However, it is through exhibitions that the true value of these collaborative efforts is realized.

EXHIBITIONS serve as powerful platforms to showcase work and innovation to the public and industry professionals, providing students with the opportunity to present their products in a real-world context. Participating in exhibitions helps students increase their visibility and build professional networks. By presenting their products to a broader audience, they gain crucial exposure that can open doors to future opportunities. Moreover, exhibitions offer a unique chance to receive direct feedback from diverse audiences, including potential customers, industry experts, and peers. This feedback is invaluable for refining and perfecting the product before it is launched to a wider market. Exhibitions also enable students to benchmark their work against industry standards and emerging trends. Observing other exhibitors and engaging in discussions can inspire new ideas and motivate students to push the boundaries of their design capabilities.

In summary, while group projects enhance productivity and skill utilization, exhibitions elevate these efforts by providing a platform for visibility, feedback, and professional growth. The interaction and insights gained during exhibitions are essential for the successful launch and market acceptance of new products.
