Fostering and Empowering has long been the vision of BINUS Higher Education. BINUS itself is an abbreviation for Bina Nusantara. In the Indonesian language it literally means fostering the archipelago. With almost half a decade of service under its belt, BINUS UNIVERSITY realized that breakthrough can only be achieved through collaborations with other institutions. BINUS UNIVERSITY as a respectable institutions, has collaborated with many partner institutions, domestic as well as International.

In order to deliver outstanding quality graduates, BINUS UNIVERSITY (Indonesia) together with ASO College Group (Japan) established BINUS ASO School of Engineering (BASE). BASE students immerse themselves in course work that combines theory with hands-on experience updated technology facilities.

Each year, BINUS ASO School of Engineering has a summer course program. Sending its students to stay in Japan for the duration of a month where they will immerse themselves in education with the help of our partner University in Japan. Not only education, they will also experience another type of life in Japan. Summer in Japan is a sight to behold with clear blue skies and a great panorama to boost. It is beautiful with its own set of challenges however. Summer in Japan are hot and humid, with temperatures soaring to 20 until 30 degrees Celsius.

This year, there are 12 participants. 9 are Product Design Engineering Students and the other 3 are Automotive & Robotics Engineering students. For the duration of their visit to Japan, they will stay at ASO International House in Fukuoka Prefecture. They filled their days with learning from the various institutions in partnership with BINUS ASO School of Engineering. Amongst those institutions are, ASO Architecture and Design College, ASO College of Automotive Engineering and Technology.

They made a few industry visit, most notably to Toyota Kyushu (Miyata Factory) to learn from Lexus about their philosophy to maintain their high car quality. They received a lecture about Lexus brand positioning and its philosophy, Lexus Quality Policy, and Lexus quality control practice by various people in Toyota Kyushu. They were also shown the painting plan of Lexus cars. The students also got to learn more about 3D modelling using 3D printer.

They also got to experience life in the fast lane by watching ASO Formula students’ car official testing near the campus. This is the first time any of the students saw a formula car up close and personal and they also received another chance to see the car in the lab and talk to the students about the developing the car.

Just in case they missed their parents and are feeling homesick, a video conference call was set up by BINUS ASO School of Engineering. Their parents at their school in Jakarta and their in their dormitory. Another conference are set up for them to greet their juniors who are just beginning their studies at BINUS ASO School of Engineering. This will no doubt created a lasting impression for the new students as in a few years’ time it will be their turn to participate in a summer course program.

This trip is not a trip for dilettante students, they will receive assessment and scores based on their performance during the summer course. So they don’t just observe during their visit but also what they have learned is tested.

BINUS ASO School of Engineering hope that through the summer course program that lasted a month, it could be a gateway to expand the students’ knowledge in their respective fields of studies and they will return to their country with new dreams for the future. If they are successful in their dreams then they are well on their way to foster and empower Indonesia through the breakthroughs of new technology.
