Quality of work is not only determined by technical competence, but also work ethic that has constituted the parameters in determining quality of work. In order to cultivate both characters, BINUS School of Engineering (BASE) conducted a study tour in a Japanese car manufacturer, Daihatsu. In this visit, held on Wednesday (23/3), BASE students and lecturers participated.

The tour?s purpose was to showcase how Daihatsu employees work to the students. According to Sofyan, S. Kom., M. Eng., Head of Program ? Automotive & Robotics, beside watching Daihatsu?s production process? technical aspects, the students were invited to observe Daihatsu employees? work ethic as well. He mentioned, with positive ethic, a work will be performed efficiently and safely.

Work ethic is a useful aspect too employees? safety. This automotive enterprise certainly operates heavy equipments that may bring considerable risks towards its employees. The risk is serious and may involve not only death tolls, but also damaged engines resulting in financial losses, even cessation of production due to broken machines. In his opinion, a system consists not only of technical aspects, but also work ethic which is inseparable from it.

Sofyan claimed that their opportunity to visit Daihatsu was the fruit of ASO College Group?s broad cooperation network. So in addition to obtaining learning materials in the class, BASE students have the opportunity for visits to renowned automotive manufacturer too, such as Daihatsu. He also hoped, in the future, BASE graduates will be able to work in a number of the world?s leading automotive manufacturers.

He also stated that Indonesia is a very potential country, but unfortunately, the number of engineers in Indonesia is still very few. If the country has many engineers, then it can create a high number of jobs, not only stand as a consumer country. "With more and more engineers, we will be creating more, instead of consuming," said Sofyan.

Sofyan asserted, engineers may come from diverse universities, but BINUS ASO School of Engineering?s focus is to create engineers that concerns the elements of humanity in each of their work. This humanistic elements consists of safety, comfort, other human-needs.
